UDR Inc., which owns 60,126 apartment units that are aimed at “renters by choice,” was able to increase rents by 0.7 percent, or $18, during the second quarter to $2,543/unit. They’re up 2.3 percent from a year ago. The company owns properties in markets where homeownership costs have skyrocketed.
