The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s lender partners originated only 239 loans totaling $3.94 billion during the agency’s first fiscal quarter. That was a nearly 50 percent reduction from the $7.54 billion of volume they originated a year ago, thanks to higher interest rates. At this pace, the agency’s annual volume could end up being its lowest in seven years.
