Federal government agencies, which are subject to 7,549 leases governing 173.92 million square feet of office space, are the largest users of space in the Washington, D.C., area, with 51.56 million sf in Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia. That could be shrunk, given the outcome of this week’s elections.
